YouTube Shorts or long videos - what should beginners focus on?

For someone starting a new YouTube channel, where would you put most of your effort: Shorts or traditional long-form videos? Shorts can introduce your content to new viewers quickly, while longer videos allow creators to explore a topic in much more depth. If you have experimented with both, what has your experience been?
