Plastic Bottle Art, "8 Million" Spider Street Show #12- Americas Ave, New York U.S.A 5.29,2016 208 Artist Statement – 8 Million In ancient times, there were 8 million Gods who lived in the Island. The number of 8 million means infinity. Our ancestors believed that everything in nature, like the sun, rivers, trees and animals have souls. That is the idea of Animism which becomes Shinto of Japan later. Those Gods respected each other and built a spiritually rich and sustainable country. The story tells us the true meaning of the word “Enough is as good as a feast”. (=There is no value in excess) Spiders are quite unique creature. Sometimes it becomes a messenger from God and sometimes it becomes a monster in myths and legends. This spider I made might be one of the 8 million Gods. Profile Takeshi Spider/Hamanaka is a Sculptor from Kanagawa, Japan. Takeshi created the first recycled artwork by using disposable plastic bottles in 2008.
